Transporting instruments - a topic in itself. Not only a financial burden: Volker Kriegel once described the arduous undertaking with a wonderful title creation: "Big Schlepp". Perhaps the largest representative of this small instrument came from our neighbouring country Belgium: Toots Thielemans.
On her current CD "Riverbeast", the brilliant harmonica specialist from Amsterdam presents herself with Steve Gadd and Kevin Hays, works in trio with Gwilym Simcock and Mike Walker, has been involved in recordings and concerts with Al Jarreau, Han Bennink, Toots Thielemans, Fay Claassen, the Willem Breuker Kollektief and the Metropole Orkest.

At the first NLJ concert of the new decade, she bows to Toots, who has called Hermine Deurloo his "female successor". At the piano a regular guest of this series of events, Hubert Nuss, about whom the same Toots once said, "you sound like a happy Bill Evans! The bassist Theo de Jong and the drummer Bruno Castellucci, known above all for his many years of work with Peter Herbolzheimer, formed one of Thielemans' preferred rhythm groups.
