Paul Heller invites Hermine Deurloo & Bruno Castellucci

Transporting instruments - a topic in itself. Not only a financial burden: Volker Kriegel once described the arduous undertaking with a wonderful title creation: "Big Schlepp". Harmonica players do not have this problem. The harp could theoretically fit in your pocket. Perhaps the largest representative of this small instrument came from our neighbouring country Belgium: Toots Thielemans.
On her current CD "Riverbeast", the brilliant harmonica specialist from Amsterdam presents herself with Steve Gadd and Kevin Hays, works in trio with Gwilym Simcock and Mike Walker, has been involved in recordings and concerts with Al Jarreau, Han Bennink, Toots Thielemans, Fay Claassen, the Willem Breuker Kollektief and the Metropole Orkest.

At the first NLJ concert of the new decade, she bows to Toots, who has called Hermine Deurloo his "female successor". At the piano a regular guest of this series of events, Hubert Nuss, about whom the same Toots once said, "you sound like a happy Bill Evans! The bassist Theo de Jong and the drummer Bruno Castellucci, known above all for his many years of work with Peter Herbolzheimer, formed one of Thielemans' preferred rhythm groups. Toots once performed with her at the Cologne Subway, in the audience: Paul Heller. It is time to discover in Hermine Deurloo a master of her craft. And the time should be over, when the harmonica appeared in the polls, the popularity rankings of jazz magazines, in the section "miscellaneous instrument", under "other" - in the company of lovable exotic instruments like the ukulele and the berimbau...
