NICA live: Janning Trumann 4

When it comes to outstanding German trombonists, Albert Mangelsdorff and Nils Wogram are usually mentioned as important reference points in the tradition of internationally recognised musicians. In recent years, a new talent of the younger generation has come closer to them: Janning Trumann. With his working band, the Cologne trombonist plays poetically thrilling and dynamically flowing jazz. The music is complex and magnetic at the same time, expressive and yet always makes clear musical statements. Wonderfully playing the sounds and the vocal quality of his instrument and at the same time embedding it in the collaborative shaping of his stringent compositions and their improvisational freedom. Together with Lucas Leidinger, Florian Herzog and Thomas Sauerborn, Janning Trumann unfolds an enormous, deeply effective energy. "A band that understands each other blindly through years of collaboration", according to a feature on WDR3 in February 2022.

In spring 2022, Janning Trumann 4 released the album "Roots & Riots" on Tangible Music. " As if made of one piece" wrote the Frankfurter Rundschau - the quartet's music combines digital with analogue effects and improvised music. At their concert as part of the concert series 'NICA live' at the Stadtgarten, the quartet will present new compositions and a further development of the music from their last album. We can look forward to music that is created in the moment and flows powerfully.

Since 2023, Janning Trumann has been part of the NICA artist development programme for outstanding musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The programme aims to support artists as individually as possible in their artistic profiling and professionalisation of their careers.
