A Week of Surprise full of musical surprises, diversions, oases and discoveries. Due to the current Corona situation, the Cologne festival "Night of Surprise", will take place as a six-day festival, including not only the Stadtgarten but also other concert venues such as the Christuskirche and the Galerie Martina Kaiser. The program of this interim format focuses on niches of the European musical landscape and projects of some darlings of the last festival editions, on local projects and new collaborations in more concert-like formats.

Fred Frith & Lotte Anke
Two musicians in spontaneous dialogue, without a net or a false bottom. The Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker, who knows all the free jazz and improvisation waters, and the legendary British avant-garde guitarist and composer Fred Frith have been working together as a duo and in various ensemble formations for more than ten years. Their interplay has developed a deep intuitive understanding that unfolds in highly diverse dynamic landscapes. An adventurous music that explores the now: in noises and sound textures, powerful expression and fragmented gestures, in melodies, memory, silence. In the second part a new adventure: Frith and Anker meet with Maria Portugal (percussion), Angelika Sheridan (flute) and Udo Moll (trumpet, electronics) three distinctive improvising voices from the region.
