Vernissage: Patrick Essex | bichrom

Cologne-based photographer Patrick Essex has created the series "bichrom" especially for the Stadtgarten Köln, which presents musicians in two-tone images.

The seven musicians depicted are former and current participants of NICA artist development. Launched in 2019, the funding program for outstanding musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia is organized by the European Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music Stadtgarten Cologne and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Using light, transparencies and various glass filters, Essex created a visual framework in his photo studio, which Leif Berger, Elisabeth Coudoux, Fabian Dudek, Marlies Debacker, Pablo Gīw, Theresia Philipp and Rebekka Salomea Ziegler freely interpreted with or without instruments in motion. Stylist Sabine Berlipp is responsible for the musicians' unusual and colorful outfits.

Patrick Essex's flair for light and color has produced a series of photographs that accentuate the artistic individuality of those depicted and arouse curiosity about music through the dynamism of the images.

The exhibition opening will take place in the presence of the photographer.
