"Traveling On" - CCJO feat. Simin Tander
As the second part of the band's 20th anniversary celebrations, the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra invites German-Afghan singer and composer Simin Tander, who will perform her own exciting music, partly arranged by Heiner Schmitz, with the big band for the first time.
Simin Tander is one of the most exciting musicians on the European jazz scene. Sung in English as well as in Pashto/Afghaani, her timbre, both delicate and powerfully warm, develops a pull, a quiet intensity, that one rarely experiences. Already a few years ago, she was enthusiastically celebrated by the international press for her album "Where Water Travels Home". The reactions to the trio production "What Was Said" by Tord Gustavsen and Tander with Jarle Vespestad, released on ECM Records, were almost more effusive, and it received the annual prize of the German Record Critics.
With her own New Quartet she has just been on acclaimed release tour of the new album "Unfading". Today's program "Traveling On" will feature both new and older songs from Simin's pen.
Simin Tander (vocals, composition), Jan Schneider, Christian Winninghoff, Matthias Knoop, Matthias Bergmann (trumpet), Peter Schwatlo, Andreas Schickentanz, Ben Degen, Wolf Schenk (trombone), Marko Lackner, Kristina Brodersen, Matthew Halpin, Francois de Ribaupierre, Marcus Bartelt (saxophone), Jürgen Friedrich (piano), Johannes Behr (guitar), Volker Heinze (bass), Jens Düppe (drums)
