The Modern Art Orchestra plays Béla Bartóks 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs

feat. Veronika Harcsa, László Gőz, Mihály Dresch and Miklós Lukács

"Fifteen Hungarian Peasant Songs" is a collection of short folk melodies by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. Originally arranged for piano, the melodies were transcribed into orchestral pieces by the creative minds of the Modern Art Orchestra - Kristóf Bacsó, János Ávéd, Gábor Subicz and Kornél Fekete-Kovács. The short songs were transcribed while fully preserving their original form. A connection between the pieces is created by the multi-layered improvisations of the musicians with an imaginative joy of playing. The four composers of MAO created their own reflections to Bartók's music that are played between the 15 movements. The compositions connect and re-interpret the parts of the folk-music-inspired work of the grand Hungarian componist.

Since its founding seventeen years ago, the MAO has attained the status of an internationally renowned orchestra, engaged in many musical genres, including jazz, pop, and classical, for example. It has performed countless successful projects with leading musicians from Bob Mintzer, Dave Liebman and Wallace Roney to Rhoda Scott, Julian Joseph, Erika Miklósa, Mike Garson, Chris Potter, Silje Neergard, Mezzoforte, the New York Voices and the Harlem Gospel Choir.
