Poppy Ackroyd

Der Vorverkauf ist beendet. Es sind noch ausreichend Tickets an der Abendkasse erhältlich.

On her new album "Resolve" the exceptional British composer, violinist and pianist Poppy Ackroyd works on highly personal thoughts and feelings: "Resolve is about the determination to embrace the good things in life whilst dealing with unexpected and challenging difficulties. Finding the light in the dark, facing sadness and loss head on, and developing a growing inner strength."

The 10 pieces on the album cover a wide range of sounds and themes. The main roles are played by piano, which often sets catchy basic themes, and violin, which in a wide variety of variations enters into a narrative interplay with the piano. Poppy Ackroyd not only sends herself, but also her listeners on an exciting journey through their auditory memory and fantasy: Poppy Ackroyd completely rethinks instruments, uses the complete body of sound to create sound worlds that sound far larger than the minimalist line-up might assume. Piano strings are processed with picks and drumsticks, instrument bodies are misused as percussion instruments and sound tracks are creatively rearranged digitally.

For the first time Ackroyd collaborated for one of her solo releases with other musicians like Manu Delago (Björk, Cinematic Orchestra, Anoushka Shankar) on Hang, Mike Lesirge (Bonobo, Andreya Triana) on Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Flute and Jo Quail on Cello. Poppy Ackroyds also plays his own piano, violin, harmonium and spinet. The guest musicians deeply integrated her into their own unique way of composing and thus created completely new sounds in creative feedback: "With the other musicians, I asked them to explore the instrument and to create as many weird and wonderful sounds as they could. I then spent hours sifting through the recordings and choosing sounds and short percussive ideas that I could rearrange and build the track from."

The Brit trained in classical piano and violin has been one of the great talents of modern classical music since her earlier albums "Escapement" and "Feathers". Promoted and courted by neo-classic world stars like Nils Frahm or Hauschka, she was able to gain a firm following with her unique style.
