OLUZAYO - Club Night w/ Catu Diosis, Jay Mitta, Kadilida, Hibotep & Dope Gal Soundsystem

OLUZAYO - Zulu for "What lies ahead." An extraordinary music festival that will take place in Cologne and in Johannesburg in 2023. The focus: musical creativity, innovations and experiments from Africa. In experimental songs and transcultural mixtures, in contemporary orchestral and ensemble music or the further development of indigenous traditions, in audiovisual narratives or conceptual sound art.
For Senegalese economist and musician Felwine Sarr, one of Africa's leading intellectuals, music, art and literature are the most important resources for developing visions for Africa's future and overcoming the foreign domination of Africa's (post-)colonial past and present. "Oluzayo" explores music and sound as a field that reflects these dissonances and possibilities - as well as the complex interconnections between Africa and Europe. Great and very different music and unfamiliar sounds, new ideas and surprising emotions.

The club night, co-hosted by Cologne´s new international Dope Gal Soundsystem, will feature and support up and coming female electronic music artists and MCs from Africa and the African diaspora. Catu Diosis and Hibotep hail from Kampala ́s underground, which they helped shake up with the Nyege Nyege platform and their sometimes harsh, always thrilling and joyful boundary-pushing electronic music. Two special live-acts will add extra spice to an already super-excitig night: Jay Mitta, excellent producer of Tanzania´s hyperfast Singeli trance-punkish music will feature powerful MC Kadilida, while co-hosts Catu Diosis and Oh Lorena join forces as Dope Gal Magic. The program may be altered short notice to go even higher.
