NICA live: Laura Totenhagen

In all her performances - solo or in the context of other musicians - improviser and singer Laura Totenhagen knows how to confront and question her audience and their expectations as well as herself in a clever way.

Inspired by Lucrecia Dalt or Eartheater, Totenhagen sometimes filters her voice through various effects to transform it into an electronic sound, thus using it like a synthetic instrument. Just like her a cappella performances, these electronic manipulations strive for a liberation from common musical rules and patriarchal fetters.

As part of the concert series "NICA live", Totenhagen recently performed an impressive duo collaboration with the Belgian bassist Farida Amadou. On 25 September, the Cologne musician will again make the concert space her own with the possibilities of her voice and her flair for atmospheric staging in the context of two solo sets.
