NICA live: Janick Martin & Luise Volkmann

Saxophonist and composer Luise Volkmann - NICA artist 2022 - in her second concert as part of the concert series "NICA live" picks up where she left off in April this year and once again focuses on the scene in France.

For the first time, Volkmann will be heard in a duo with French accordionist Janick Martin. The musician, who hails from Brittany - a peninsula in northwestern France - is deeply interwoven with the musical tradition of his homeland. For in addition to bombarde, uillean pipes, Celtic violins and flutes, the accordion is also among those instruments that shape the unique sound of the region on the Atlantic. After two decades of playing mainly as a sideman, Martin will release his debut album under his own name in the fall of 2023.

Together, Volkmann and Martin will create a musical framework that offers space for folkloric motifs, modern references and, above all, celebrates the freshness of a first creative meeting and the creative potential of the moment.
