Matthew Mole
"Hello Kirstenbosch" the singer/songwriter Matthew Mole, born in 1991, calls out to his audience and the enthusiastic cheers from a thousand, maybe two thousand mouths resound back. "My always, forever, the light in the dark ..." starts Mole with his song 'Let me' and already after the first two words the audience joins in laughing, dancing and cheering even louder.
With his poppy folk sound, among which electronic influences have been increasingly mixed since his most recent releases, and song lyrics that fluctuate touchingly between euphoric scenarios of new beginnings and melancholic-optimistic moments of inner contemplation, the South African inspires not only teenagers and young adults. In 2019, he released his third album so far 'GHOST' and landed with it on the first place of the iTunes streaming charts and was awarded with for it two South African music awards - album of the year and best pop album. Mole can already look back on many performances at major international festivals, and has also been a support act for bands such as Bastille, Of Monsters And Men and The Fray. Now, at JAKI, there is the opportunity to experience the multi-instrumentalist with the softly melting voice in an intimate setting.
