Octurn / Enso: Strings & Percussion / Bill Frisell & Thomas Morgan
Octurn + Special Guest Joris Roelofs
Hardly any other jazz ensemble is as elusive as OCTURN from Brussels. Bo van der Werf constantly changes the compositional and instrumental concept, without ever losing sight of his personal approach to composition and group improvisation. Everything is in constant flux, forming sonic worlds out of the new and as yet unknown - now in the exciting encounter with Dutchman Joris Roelofs, who can be heard exclusively on bass clarinet.
Enso: Strings & Percussion
Since 2016, Enso has served as an acoustic research chamber for double bassist and improvisation artist Stefan Schönegg. At its core consisting of percussion, cello and double bass, Enso (a symbol from Japanese calligraphy) sometimes supplements itself with a saxophone to form a quartet, sometimes grows into the octet "Big Enso", in which the beguiling sound spaces between notated jazz and new music, improvisation and intuitive togetherness expand to come as close as possible to silence. The project Enso: Strings & Percussion now goes one step further again, reducing the composer's ideal to its purest and most elegant manifestation to date.
Bill Frisell & Thomas Morgan
Bill Frisell is also a master of quiet tones. Nothing is fixed with him either; on the contrary, stylistically open to every conceivable influence from country, blues and pop, Frisell's musical cosmos is a constantly "flowing space." "Of course, the music I listened to growing up resonates with me," he said. "Everything is interwoven with popular music." Together with Thomas Morgan, Frisell congenially approaches his desire for unity in diversity. Their virtuosic interplay condenses into moments of pure poetry, whether in their original compositions, cover versions of Lee Konitz's "Subcionscious Lee" or John Barry James Bond hit "Goldfinger." Ultimate sound art at the destination of a multiform sound journey!
