Jazz at JAKI: Melissa Pinto Quintett

Melissa Pinto's pieces explore new ways of rendering the music of Colombia's two coastal regions in the language of jazz. With her compositions, she pursues the intention of celebrating and highlighting the underlying elements of the musical folklore of these regions.

The press classifies her style as unique and calls Melissa Pinto one of the promising young composers of the independent Colombian music scene. Given the positive reception by the public, the press rated her first album "Oí na' ma" as one of the best albums produced in Colombia in 2014. Here she will perform the compositions of her third album "Proyecto Colonia" with the already established Cologne musicians Julius Van Rhee, Lucy Liebe, Calvin Lennig and Simon Bräumer.
