Jazz at JAKI: Leo Asal

The biggest inspiration for the title of this evening is the band "Silk Sonic" with the album "An Evening with Silk Sonic". However, this concert has rather little to do with the music of "Silk Sonic"... The first set is framed by the recently released album "A Day Like Another" with bassist Charly Härtel. The common fascination for driving grooves and the research for new sounds characterize the duo, which was founded in 2020. The focus is on the tension between lively interaction and composed melodies. After the break, the existing duo will be joined by Andreas Theobald on Fender Rhodes and Lukas Wilmsmeyer on guitar. The new compositions from Leo Asal's pen received their imprint through various influences from the areas of Hip Hop, R&B and Jazz. Names like Yussef Dayes, Herbie Hancock and Robert Glasper are not entirely inappropriate in this context... The band's focus is on linking danceable grooves and open improvisations by means of an underlying structure.
