Jazz at Green Room: Mathieu Clement
In February 2022, Luxembourg drummer Mathieu Clement recorded his first album and released it in March this year on "Double Moon Records / Jazz Thing Next Generation".
Clement is studying at the HfMT Cologne since 2019, so it's not surprising that his sextet is made up of members of the local scene, among others. Three wind players - trumpeter Jakob Bänsch and the two tenor saxophonists Victor Fox and Adrian Gallet - the piano is played by Leon Hattori, and bassist Jan Blikslager is responsible for the low notes. "I had already played a lot with Jan Blikslager and Adrian Gallet anyway, so it was clear that they had to be part of it," the drummer describes his thoughts on founding the band.
"Coming Home" is the name of Clement's debut and his music, which is inspired by compositions by Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter or Thelonious Monk, is intended by the 2001-born as an exploration of his personality, through which he wants to convey an impression of himself. In all this, the focus is always on interacting and creating together in the context of the band - on the recording as well as in the live moment.
Matthias Schriefl (trumpet), Victor Fox (tenor saxophone), Adrian Gallet (tenor saxophone), Leon Hattori (piano), Jan Blikslager (double bass), Mathieu Clement (drums), Jakob Bänsch (trumpet)
