Harold López-Nussa Trio
Karsten Jahnke präsentiert
The Cuban Harold López-Nussa is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer. In DownBeat Magazine, Howard Mandel wrote: "López-Nussa's grace in single-note playing resembles that of Herbie Hancock, and his attacks, played with both fists, are as delightful as Chick Corea's."
Until he was 18, López-Nussa was devoted to classical music. "When you come from classical school, you learn how to play notes exactly as they are written in the score," he says. "In terms of jazz, I remember my uncle (pianist Ernán López-Nussa) showing me the charts for a standard and saying, "Now you're improvising." "Excuse me?" "You just improvise, - whatever you feel." Since then, the 1983-born has been intensely and passionately exploring the history and future of jazz, while also incorporating the influences of Afro-Cuban music into his own work. On his current album 'Te Lo Dije' and live, you can hear López-Nussa's distinctive combination of classical, folkloric and popular elements.
