Gabriele Mitelli's Three Tsuru Origami
The European trio of the young Italian musician and composer Gabriele Mitelli has a clear goal: to distance itself from the cliché and explore paths less traveled. The music is a journey into the heart of improvisation, avant-garde jazz understood as an edgy practice in which the willingness to take risks is the key to progress. Mitelli's bandmates are two great English musicians for whom noise and revolt are a way of life: Bassist John Edwards and drummer Mark Sanders. All three are tireless experimenters who have played in various combinations with musicians such as Evan Parker, Roscoe Mitchell, Sunny Murray, Peter Brötzmann, Louis Moholo-Moholo and Wadada Leo Smith: Collaborations that testify to courage and freedom, integrity and commitment. We are excited: There is a whole world to discover here.
Gabriele Mitelli (Brescia, 1988) is a musician, composer and performer. He works with experimental music and avant-garde jazz. His main instrument is the trumpet, but he also plays many other wind instruments and modular synthesizers. He creates sound installations and site-specific performances, among other things.
"The young trumpeter Gabriele Mitelli brings a Doncherry-esque quality to the projects he is involved in, but his expressiveness is undoubtedly that of the twenty-first century. [He has] the potential to attract a whole new audience to the genre." (Enrico Bettinello)
