Concert #1
Title: Dark Light
Program:
Bára Gísladóttir - Rage against reply guy (2021)
Bára Gísladóttir - Laufgar (2021)
Laure M Hiendl - String Quartet No.2
In the second live concert of the FMN (FRAU MUSICA NOVA) Festival, the Cologne-based Ensemble Garage presents "DARK LIGHT", works by the composers and performers Bára Gísladóttir and Laure M. Hiendl. The program moves fluidly between different compositional languages and lets classical chamber music meet electronic and performative worlds. The light and performance concept, originated by Laure M. Hiendl herself, creates connecting lines between an alienated, driving electro-performative string quartet and Bára Gísladóttir's almost meditative, transcendent listening spaces.
Ensemble Garage reflects the (post)-internet society with its digital-media manifestations. An essential element is the development of new music towards transmedial, theatrical and performative forms of production.
Concert #2
Title: ECCENTRIC LISTENING (HYBRID)
Artist:in: AMET
In their Eccentric Listening, AMET presents eccentric, audacious and daring music as a hosted digital audio show. Born in Yaoundé/Cameroon, sound artist Elsa M'Bala lives and works in Berlin. As AMET, she produces live podcasts, a mix of DJing and live radio shows in which field recordings are interwoven live with interviews. Her sound sees itself as a reflection on race, cultural background, gender and spirituality. It questions how the musical output of an artist should sound based on their background and strives to dissolve expectations in this regard. Amet's works are based on scales that break with the diatonicism of the Western canon and instead engage in a non-Western musical practice.
Other Eccentric Listenings by transmedia Chilean artist Nicole L'Huillier
and French composer Julia Robert can be heard on our website between Nov. 20 and Nov. 27, 2022. -> https://www.fmn-space.de

FMN (Ms. Musica Nova) stands for the opening of the genre "Contemporary Music Festival" towards an open encounter platform of the arts.
From the very beginning, FMN has stood for artists:inside who evoke a confrontation with the present and the contemporary with their language and explore various forms of experimental approaches to music and its interaction with media, performance and theatricality. The festival continuously expands the spectrum of transmedial productions and advocates overcoming the boundaries of genre and gender.
Germany's traditional festival of female composers was founded in 1997 and has been closely associated with Deutschlandfunk throughout its existence. All concerts are recorded, produced and subsequently broadcast with commentary in the Deutschlandfunk program. In addition, FMN develops an important and forward-looking network in cooperation with other festivals and institutions such as HELLERAU - European Center for the Arts, Heroines of Sound or Radialsystem Berlin, in order to disseminate the work of selected contemporary artists.
