Goya Gumbani
Born to an English-Jamaican mother and Guyanese-South American father in Brooklyn, NY, Goya's move to South London in his youth opened up a new world of possibilities. Goya's decade-long evolution as an artist and producer reached a breakthrough when he released his first self-produced EP, "Morta & More Doves," a dedication to his sister, who passed away in 2018 and was active in various collectives in the city. This release marked the beginning of a productive period for Goya, who released four more projects in the following years: three mixtapes - "Children of Ra" produced by Rago Foot, "The Lesser-Known" produced by Kiina and "HGR Presents: Thousand Months' produced by Hallowed Ground Recording - and an EP called 'GG & Bori Steps Across The Pond' produced by Bori from NY. 'Sinu Metu', a single from the EP, was chosen by Pitchfork as the must-hear rap song of the day, noting that the track was "an introduction to a duo with chemistry". Goya's admiration for the craft of music production led him to give the producer of each project equal importance as himself. "What are the words without the beat?" he asks. Despite his transatlantic origins, Goya's work in hip-hop storytelling is rooted in New York. As part of a recent profile, he was named to the NME 100 list of 2021 & ID's one to watch. Goya also performed two songs in a session for COLORS in Berlin.
YUNGMORPHEUS is a US rapper and producer originally from Miami and now living in LA. He has released music on Leaving Records, Bad Taste and Rap Vacation and has collaborated with Pink Siifu, Fly Anakin, Koncept Jack$on and Ohbliv.
Last year, YUNGMORPHEUS released 'Thumbing Thru Foliage', which combines personal stories and socio-political issues with his signature wit and blunt style. It was produced entirely by ewonee and praised in Pitchfork, SPIN, AV Club and by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6Music. This release was followed by 'Affable with Pointed Teeth', which was produced entirely by Eyedress. MORPH and Eyedress recorded the album over several months of in-person sessions, with Eyedress looping live instruments to accompany MORPH's detailed narration.
