Erik Friedlander Trio "Sentinel"

Erik Friedlander's new trio, Sentinel, follows Friedlander's instincts for drama and excitement to the stage. The unexpected is demanded, and the normal routes are avoided. The musicians are charged to make things happen, inspiring each other to greater moments of synchronicity. Sentinel works to discover those unrehearsable moments that happen unexpectedly, like a match struck in the dark.

Friedlander had played separately with Ava Mendoza and Diego Espinosa over the years, and in early November, he invited Espinosa to Brooklyn from Mexico City to link up with him and Mendoza. The trio only had one day together before cutting the record, but Friedlander took this lack of time as an opportunity to capture the raw instincts of the band. “Sentinel,” is out September 2020.
