Cologne Jazzweek: Large Ensemble des Musikschulnetzwerks „JIP“
A large ensemble with up to 50 young musicians from seven music schools, two exceptional musicians as guest soloists, four artistic directors, two concerts in Cologne and Leverkusen - these are the framework data of an outstanding music project of the music school network "JIP" - Jazz, Improvisation, Pop.
With its various musical concepts, the large ensemble, which spans several music schools, goes beyond conventional large formations and offers the predominantly young participants the opportunity to play together with distinguished musicians in diverse musical orientations and variable instrumentations. Music is made with sheet music (specially commissioned compositions and arrangements), but above all also without sheet music (free improvisation, instant composing, conducted improvisation, concept improvisation).
The initiators have succeeded in winning two internationally active guest soloists, Simin Tander (vocals) and Prof. Michel Godard (serpent, tuba), who will develop the concert program together with the young people. And the musical leadership team unites Michael Gerards (Duisburg Music and Art School), André Nendza (Open Jazz House School, Cologne), Matthias Petzold (Brühl City Art and Music School) and Jan Schreiner (Leverkusen City Music School), four impressive jazz musicians, ensemble leaders, composers and music educators.
