There is a reason for the "70" in the name of this quartet around Nils Wogram: When the posaunst founded Root 70 in 2000, he wanted to make clear already with the name that the four musicians, who had met during their jazz music studies in Cologne, were similarly socialized, because they were all born in the 1970s, although they came from almost opposite points on the globe, Germany and New Zealand. "Conceptual Works" is what they called their work periods for a while, in which they experimented intensively with specific aesthetics of improvised music. One of these conceptual works is the integration of strings into the jazz quartet. They don't provide a sound bed for the four jazz musicians, but are another voice for Root 70's improvisational music, which is so polyphonic anyway.
