Alexander Hawkins Trio
Alexander Hawkins is widely recognised as one of the UK’s most innovative and imaginative pianists and composer. He is self-taught with a great love and deep knowledge of the jazz tradition which he brings, along with classical references, to his compositions and performance.
These 3 musicians have played together for many years in other projects led by Alexander, including his Quartet and Ensemble and are the core of Mirror Canon which released Break a Vase on Intakt in early 2022.
Together in the Trio, the huge sound and immaculate sense of time of Neil Charles (aka producer Ben Marc) and the empathic drumming of Stephen Davis produce a masterful interplay of freedom and structure, composition and improvisation. A new album will be released in 2023, on Intakt.
Alexander has worked with Anthony Braxton in a number of his projects. In 2018 the Trio performed with him in London, on Braxton’s Standards. In early January 2020 the then Quartet toured Europe, recording each performance, and releasing the monumental 13CD live box set Anthony Braxton Quartet (Standards). The Trio is also the core of John Surman’s quartet.
Alexander Hawkins (piano, synthesizer, sampler), Neil Charles (double bass), Stephen Davis (drums)
