Concert
Laura Cahen © Jérémy Soma
Cancelled: LE POP - LA SÉRIE: Laura Cahen
Laura Cahen's album Une Fille, released in April, has taken off on all channels in France. It is a manifesto of her creative personality as well as a confession of her sexuality. The girl on the album is Laura herself, but at the same time she is also the protagonist of a story beyond space and time: "My characters all have to do
to do with my life, with who I am: A girl in 2020, homosexual, which is easier than a century ago, but not as obvious."
The album was co-produced with Dan Levy - ex-member of indie pop duo The Dø and producer of Las Aves, Jeanne Added and Thomas Azier. The single "La complainte du soleil" was also the title track to the Netflix animated film "I Lost my Body", which was nominated for an Oscar in 2020. Laura refuses to be pigeonholed with her music.
with her music. Dreams, seasons, nature, love, breakups, madness and a touch of magic can all be found in her songs. Influences come from Beth Gibbons, Aldous Harding, Bertrand Belin, Lhasa, Kate Bush, Alain Souchon, Björk, PJ Harvey, Anne Sylvestre... Anglo-Saxon structures, French lyrics, constant new experiments: electronic music is a perfect match for Laura's imaginative lyrics, steeped in nineteenth-century romanticism, and her revealed timbre.
