NICA live: Volkmann // Beha present Shevek Iyapo // Steloolive
"Shevek Iyapo" is a sound performance that combines two different perspectives on life in Almanya (Turkish for "Germany") to create a new framework. Samples, beats, soundscapes and improvisations by the band led by musician and author Vincent Bababoutilabo meet Berena Yogarajah's poetry. A sound experience that intervenes. Anti-fascist and anti-racist. Abstract and concrete. Loud and quiet reflection and listening in art form.

The concert series "NICA live" offers creative freedom for ten currently supported NICA artists: Sophie Emilie Beha, Marlies Debacker, Ray Lozano, Fabian Dudek, Kira Hummen, Theresia Philipp, Stefan Schönegg, Laura Totenhagen, Luise Volkmann and Rebekka Salomea Ziegler.
A visit to "NICA live" brings the delightful thrill of a sneak preview at the cinema: every last Monday of the month, the series invites you to get to know music and its protagonists with curiosity and an open mind. To discover new things, delve deeper into the familiar and open up new perspectives. "NICA live" not only brings the music and projects of the NICA artists themselves to the stage, but also musicians and bands who appreciate them and would like to present them to a local audience.
NICA artist development offers outstanding musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia who work in the field of jazz and contemporary music a platform for artistic profiling and professionalisation of their careers. The artist development programme, which is based at the European Centre for Jazz and Contemporary Music at Stadtgarten Köln and funded by the state, has been in existence since 2019.
