Jazz at JAKI: Malte Dürrschnabel Quartett
To fathom the hits of the "Great American Song Book" with love and intelligence in equal measure, to celebrate every beat with relish, to make the intricate harmonies of Billy Strayhorn, George Gershwin or Richard Rodgers the starting point of truly melodic improvisations:
This is the concern of the Malte Dürrschnabel Quartet.
On the basis of the transparent sound of the rhythm section, the soloists bring in the harmonic and rhythmic possibilities of the present, but retain the charm of the originals without sounding nostalgic. Malte Dürrschnabel's feather-light saxophone tone and his melodic delicacy shape the sound of the band just as much as Jerry Lu's harmonic refinement, Dominik Raab's energetic drumming or Henning Gailing's rich bass tone.
The award-winning and internationally active musicians not only demonstrate a confident handling of the jazz tradition, they have also proven their originality in numerous CD releases.
Malte Dürrschnabel (tenor saxophone), Jerry Lu (piano), Henning Gailing (double bass), Dominik Raab (drums)
