IN BETWEEN SPACES: Maurice Louca "Saet El Hazz" & Ifriqiyya Électrique

IN BETWEEN SPACES is a series of events and platform for music, sounds and sound art from Africa, the Arab world and Europe, their social contexts, transcultural issues and artistic collaborations. Organized since 2019, the focal points 'Mediterranean Crossings' and 'Indie Idiosyncrasies' were followed by the thematic strand 'Complex Collaborations', which will come to a provisional conclusion this winter with a fourth edition.

On three evenings in November 2022, different collaborations between musicians from different regions of Africa, the African diaspora and Europe will be presented: Exciting musical hybrids between poetic South African jazz, punk noise, radical minimalist improvisations, transcultural experimentation and North African influenced trance rock.

Egyptian musician and composer Maurice Louca explores transcultural limbo in his free-swinging long composition "Saet El Hazz" (The Luck Hour) with the grandiose Lebanese A-Trio, harp, gamelan and quarter-tone guitar - at times recalling the sound of a "steampunk synth band." The Tunisian-French band Ifriqiyya Electrique takes the audience to ritualistic heights with their overwhelming brute post-industrial Sufi trance rock.
