Cologne Jazzweek: Lesley Mok – The Living Collection

Born in 1994, New York drummer, percussionist Lesley Mok presents her 2023 debut album The Living Collection at Cologne Jazzweek, documenting her ongoing explorations with composition and improvisation, which she recorded with a ten-piece chamber ensemble. The album received a nomination for the "German Jazz Award" 2024 as "International Debut Album of the Year". Mok was a resident artist at Roulette Intermedium in 2022. Her works have been commissioned and performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble and the JACK Quartet. As a percussionist, Mok has performed with Tomeika Reid, William Parker, Ingrid Laubrock and Mary Halvorson. She also works as an interdisciplinary artist in sound, installation, film and theater with a focus on queer and feminist art practices, Chinese philosophy, Afro-Cuban music traditions, futurist perspectives and ancestral knowledge inscribed in the body.
