Sister Nancy, born Ophlin Russell in Jamaica, is a pioneering dancehall and reggae DJ and is considered the first woman to achieve international success in the genre. In the early 1980s, she broke through the male dominance of the scene with bold lyrics, energetic performances and cultural pride. Her 1982 classic "Bam Bam" became a timeless anthem, sampled worldwide from hip-hop to EDM. Fearless and inspiring, Sister Nancy continues to shape music today and encourage new generations.
