Simin Tander

Releasetour: The Wind

"Tander brings refreshing innovation to a modern jazz vocal panorama (...). Her voice is a thing of beauty." (All About Jazz, USA)

With the new album The Wind (Jazzland Recordings), the German-Afghan singer Simin Tander continues to develop her artistic vision in a natural way: singing in Pashto/Afghaani in a contemporary, colorful framework between jazz and cosmopolitan. But Tander also dedicates herself - and this is new - to very old hymns and traditional songs from different parts of the world. Songs from Norway, Spain and Italy will find their way into the program, some sung in the original languages, others interpreted in her own associative, lyrical, improvised language. We can expect many bright and light-footed moments, hymn-like melodies and overall strong compositions that carry Simin's fire.

To achieve this, Simin Tander surrounds herself with outstanding musicians in her band: The Indian-born violinist Harpreet Bansal, who lives in Oslo, is a shooting star in Norway. The Swede Björn Meyer conjures up great, atmospheric effects on his bass and delves just as deeply into the depths of the groove. The versatile drummer Samuel Rohrer creates hypnotizing and driving rhythms as well as fine, bright sounds for the songs.

The tracks on the album "The Wind", which will be released in March 2025 on the Norwegian label Jazzland Recordings, will all carry the element of deep longing, a feeling that is the source and driving force behind Simin's work. Through unconventional instrumentation and extremely subtle playing, Simin Tander's 'new quartet' creates a transparent and profound sound that has rarely been heard before. Simin Tander and her chosen accompanists inspire each other, together they create a touching intimacy.
