Shalom Festival: Ensemble SISTANAGILA w/ Shirley Brill
Four Oriental Seasons
Sistan is the name of an Iranian province, "Hava Nagila" is a Hebrew song. Together they make SISTANAGILA. The Berlin ensemble with Israeli and Iranian musicians seeks dialog under this name. Together with the clarinettist Shirley Brill, they blend melodies from klezmer, Sephardic and Persian music as well as classical compositions.
The musicians demonstrate this dialog by approaching each other, listening to each other with curiosity and playing together. Carried by centuries-old Jewish and Iranian musical traditions, the musicians embark on a journey that ultimately leads them to themselves. They make use of folkloristic and religious melodies from klezmer, Sephardic and traditional Persian music as well as modern and classical compositions. The different melodies and motifs, rearranged with influences ranging from flamenco and jazz to progressive metal, merge into music that creates something completely new and builds a bridge between two worlds.
Yuval Halpern (vocals, composition), Jawad Salkhordeh (percussion), Hemad Mansouri (guitar), Avi Albers Ben Chamo (bass), Omri Abramov (saxophone), Shirley Brill (clarinet)
