Shai Maestro The Guesthouse Quartet
The Guesthouse marks a decisive turning point in Shai Maestro's artistic development. Over the course of almost three years, he created an album that combines the open improvisation of his solo playing with focused songwriting and modern production. Jazz meets acoustic and electronic soundscapes, giving each piece its own atmosphere and narrative power.
During the pandemic, Maestro immersed himself intensively in music production, expanding his musical spectrum far beyond the acoustic traditions that have shaped him. Inspired by artists such as Rosalía, Paul Simon and John Coltrane, he developed a multi-layered sound between rhythm, harmony and sonic experimentation.
Many pieces were created in his home studio in Spain, others together with his trio in the Nilento Studios in Sweden - always with a focus on human interaction and musical closeness. The album is also highly collaborative and unites different artistic perspectives.
For the first time, Maestro also ventures into writing song lyrics. His exploration of Buddhist philosophy and his personal new beginning in Spain are directly reflected in the emotional depth and openness of the album.
