Potsa Lotsa XL - Amoeba's Dance

The Berlin saxophonist, composer and bandleader Silke Eberhard is known for not making any concessions to contemporary tastes or listening habits. "Amoeba's Dance", the new album by her band Potsa Lotsa XL, is nevertheless her most accessible recording to date. This may be due to the subject matter, the various manifestations of the amoeba, to which she devotes herself with emotional devotion. The sighted ear enters a teeming microcosm populated by a multitude of sympathetic and lovable creatures that have a completely different world view from our own. Her microscopic research in sounds resulted in 18 sketches, which she later developed into compositions.

The overall sound of her band is small-scale and organic. Silke Eberhard achieves the rare feat of a perfect balance between microscopic closeness and the greatest possible freedom for all those involved in the album. Each piece has the life of a self-sufficient organism, and yet all these organisms result in a teeming mass in which each individual is reflected and vice versa.

In addition to the band leader on alto saxophone and soprano flute, "Amoeba's Dance" features a flexible and empathetic all-star cast of Berlin's jazz avant-garde with clarinettist Jürgen Kupke, tenor saxophonist and clarinettist Patrick Braun, trumpeter Nikolaus Neuser, trombonist Gerhard Gschlößl, cellist Johannes Fink, vibraphonist and percussionist Taiko Saito, pianist Antonis Antissegos, bassist Igor Spallati and drummer Kay Lübke. With this album, Silke Eberhard opens a completely new chapter in her musical career. It could also be described as having created her very own vocabulary, not least through her intensive involvement with Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Henry Threadgill and other formative greats of jazz history, which she is now recording in a new dictionary and will continue to formulate from now on with her very own mixture of unbridled exploratory urge and creative sustainability.
