Peter Bernstein Quartet
Guitarist Peter Bernstein has been part of the jazz scene in New York and abroad since 1989. In that time, he has participated in over 80 recordings and numerous festival, concert and club appearances with musicians of all generations. As a leader, Peter has released nine albums and one DVD, Live at Smoke.
His first breakthrough came during his studies at the New School when he met the legendary guitarist Jim Hall. Hall asked Peter to take part in his concert at the JVC Jazz Festival in 1990. Also in 1990, Peter Bernstein was discovered by alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson. In the 1990s he was a permanent member of Lou Donaldson's band. Peter also has a long musical association with legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb (Cobb's Mob) as well as organist Larry Goldings and drummer Bill Stewart as a member of their highly acclaimed trio. The New York Times called them "the best organ trio of the last decade". Together they recorded a dozen albums, all of which showcase their unmistakable sound. From 1995 to 1997 Peter was a member of Joshua Redman's band and from 1999 to 2001 played with Diana Krall's quartet and with Dr. Lonnie Smith, the legendary organist. Peter has also performed in the bands of Sonny Rollins, Bobby Hutcherson, George Coleman, David Fathead Newman, Etta Jones and Nicholas Payton.
