Marlies Debacker - NICA artist 2023 - is a Belgian pianist of new and experimental music. Marlies is at home in both notated new music and improvised music and has developed and refined her very own musical language at the interface between interpretation and improvisation over the years.
With sounds & cables, Marlies presents a new electro-acoustic quintet. She has put together an ensemble of musicians from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, with whom she works in different contexts - from free improvisation to chamber music and electronics. In the field of tension between raw, energetic playing, finely balanced sound textures, electronic and pseudo-electronic sounds, a multi-layered, cross-genre and explosive music is created.
