NICA live: Jorik Bergman & Nicolas Kummert | Venn Diagrams

The Cologne-based Dutch flutist and composer Jorik Bergman - NICA artist 2024 - invites the Belgian saxophonist and composer Nicolas Kummert to Cologne for a joint concert. The theme of their collaboration is the Venn diagram, a diagram used to visualize the intersection and interrelation between different objects and ideas. This theme is not only the basis for some of the newly written duo compositions, but especially for their fully improvised first set. Both musicians play solos, and at some point in the middle they overlap, which inevitably leads to duo moments. It is these duo moments when the Venn diagram is created. Searching for and finding these moments forms the core of the concert.

NICA artist development offers outstanding musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia who work in the field of jazz and contemporary music a platform for artistic profiling and professionalization of their careers. The artist development program, which is based at the European Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music at Stadtgarten Köln and funded by the state, has been in existence since 2019.
