NICA live: Felix Hauptmann OF SHAPES / CURRENT

Felix Hauptmann has conceived a program entitled OF SHAPES / CURRENT for his first concert as part of the "NICA live" series. The Cologne-based pianist and composer uses these wide-ranging terms to collect music that follows the principle of changing forms - performed by musicians whom he particularly appreciates as improvisers and who will be performing together for the first time in this constellation.

For this quartet, the focus is on reducing composed material to its essence in order to achieve the greatest possible flexibility in interpretation. Hauptmann's compositional language interacts with the perspectives of Camila Nebbia, Phil Donkin and Leif Berger.

With his long-standing trio PERCUSSION and his new, larger ensemble SERPENTINE, Hauptmann presents different approaches to his musical language. In the condensation and complex dissolution of his compositions, his dedication to the individual sound of his fellow musicians always remains palpable - as does his ability to work out and amplify it in a nuanced way.
