NICA live: Fabian Dudek Quartett
Saxophonist Fabian Dudek - NICA artist since September 2022 - presents himself with his quartet at his first 'NICA live' concert. Dudek's playing is expressive, edgy and challenging, his compositions close to free jazz. For him, such classifications are unimportant: "What counts in the end is to be in the moment. The compositional framework is built only to use it as a launch pad, towards complete ecstasy."
In 2019, Dudek released 'Creating Meaning', the quartet's debut, together with pianist Felix Hauptmann, David Helm on double bass and drummer Fabian Arends. The band's second album followed in March 2022 via Traumton Records. Dudek sees the music on 'Isolated Flower' - currently nominated for Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award) - as a musical reflection of the present, which is not intended to overwhelm its listeners with information, instead allowing them to take short escapes from the world in order to newly comprehend, reflect and question reality after the concert. This is possible thanks to the individual artistic framework on which the band's work is based and the unconventional musical structures.
