Jazz at JAKI: Parzhuber Trio

The name says it all: PARZ is the radical reduction of Cologne drummer Alex Parzhuber to the essentials. The band is currently presenting the material from their second album - a sound that began as a concentrated distillate in the heat of Cologne's Linie1 studio and unfolds its full force live. Together with Fabian Dudek (alto saxophone/wind controller/Ableton) and Oliver Lutz (electric bass), the Parzhuber Trio creates a hybrid that dissolves the boundaries between jazz club and electro session.

Inspired by the relentless energy of Knower and the atmospheric depth of Bon Iver, the trio delivers a sound that immediately kicks. While on the album pianist Olga Reznichenko provides additional avant-garde edges with her independent synthesizer sounds, at the release concert the band focuses on the direct interaction of its core line-up. It is a trip between direct beats, futuristic soundscapes and melodies that you want to sing along to.
