Jazz at JAKI: Jakob Bänsch
Trumpeter and composer Jakob Bänsch is one of the most sought-after jazz newcomers in Germany. At only 19 years of age, he has already received prizes such as the 1st Federal Prize at Jugend Musiziert, the Young Lions Jazz Award and was/is a member of the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy, the Bundesjazzorchester and the WDR Young Composers Fellowship Program.
He has shared the stage with musicians such as Bob Mintzer, Melissa Aldana, Julia Hülsmann and Emil Mangelsdorff.
With his new quartet, consisting of the congenial jazz musicians Felix Ambach, Jakob Obleser and Niklas Roever, Bänsch plays mostly original compositions.
In these, inspirations from the classical/impressionist music of masters such as Mahler or Ravel shine through as well as from modern jazz composers such as Kenny Wheeler, Richie Beirach or Maria Schneider.
