Jazz at JAKI: Gee Hye Lee Trio feat. Song Yi Jeon

"Jazz means freedom to me, and it makes me happy," says Seoul-born pianist Gee Hye Lee. The trio around the South Korean has attracted attention in recent years, and not only because the Landesjazzpreis was awarded to them in 2012. At the time, the jury highlighted their own tonal language: "technically brilliant and of the highest musical expression".

Singer Song Yi is strongly influenced by instrumental jazz music. Her refined compositions have a clear musical direction with her characteristic "East meets West" sound. This special sound quickly made her unmistakable.

With Song Yi, the trio presents their own compositions by the two Koreans for the first time. One may be curious!
