Jazz at Green Room: Cliff Schmitt’s Deep in the Reeds

Deep in the Reeds is a new band founded by American bassist Cliff Schmitt. Inspired by modern jazz as well as Astor Piazzolla, Guy Klucevsek, Brazilian choro and Cajun zydeco music, they aim to bring a fresh mix to the German improvisational music scene. Deep in the Reeds is a play on words with the English expression "deep in the weeds", which means "to get so lost in the details that you lose track". Anyone who has ever been to the immigration office in Duisburg understands this. Deep in the Reeds does the opposite: we keep the overview, and this overview consists of lyricism and rhythmic intensity.
