Foggy Notion: Eddie Chacon
"End of the World" is the latest track from Eddie Chacon's new album Lay Low, out January 31 on Stones Throw Records. The song deals with the pain of loss that Eddie has experienced in his life.
Produced and written by and featuring Nick Hakim, "End of the World" contrasts a dreamy production with lyrics that mourn a relationship that has come to an end - whether romantic, familial or platonic is deliberately left open. The message is ultimately one of hope in the midst of gloom.
Eddie Chacon says, "I feel like there's a time when you have to turn the page and move on to the next thing, but it's hard to close the chapter when you just have faith that something better will come along." He adds, "There is darkness, but you can also find light if you look for it. Nick has understood that and created a musical landscape awash with beauty and struggling to find its way."
Eddie Chacon's thoughtful brand of R&B deals with themes of mortality, failure and growth. On Lay Low, his third solo album and second for Stones Throw, he deals with the grief of losing his mother Patricia. The album was recorded over two years at Nick Hakim's studio in Brooklyn, with Hakim helping to create an intuitive framework for Chacon's songs about love and letting go. The first time Eddie and Nick got together, they recorded three songs in three days. "From that point on, it seemed like we'd been working together forever," says Eddie.
