Die Klangsprache zweier Trios trifft auf den Farbenreichtum eines Kammerochesters

On this musically diverse evening, two trios meet the eos chamber orchestra under the direction of Susanne Blumenthal: The trio around trumpeter and composer Bastian Stein with Phil Donkin on bass and James Maddren on drums will kick things off. Together, these musicians, bound by friendship, create their own universe of sound. They elevate the dense interplay to the highest common level, in which every moment is permeated by intense interaction. In doing so, they unite the great compositional forms with the spontaneous moment. Together they always find the right balance between the fully developed sound space and the playful moment. Their close collaboration is characterized by a harmonious symbiosis that allows them to inspire each other in their playing. Bastian Stein's compositional work and sound language on the trumpet are equally characterized by a strong narrative power that provides the ideal framework for virtuoso flights of fancy. For this project, Bastian Stein's pieces now appear in an orchestral guise - arranged by Niels Klein.

This is followed by the long-standing trio of Theresia Philipp (saxophone, composition), David Helm (bass) and drummer Thomas Sauerborn called Pollon. Their formation is embedded as an improvising core within the orchestral structure of the eos chamber orchestra. Musically, they also move between jazz, improvised music and contemporary ensemble sound language, which serve as a starting point for small motivic ideas and rise to larger sound movements when playing together. Similar in approach and interplay, but completely different in expression, Pollon lives from the translation of the simple into the complex. Improvisation is at the heart of the compositional framework. In this new context, Philipp's versatile compositions painterly unfold textures, layers and timbres into a dynamically versatile music and unique atmosphere.

Although musically different in their expression, what the trios have in common is a high degree of sophistication and finesse, which both composers consider a priority. The protagonists of the evening - Susanne Blumenthal, Niels Klein, Theresia Philipp and Bastian Stein - are linked by a long-standing friendship, which not least inspires them to enjoy playing together.
