Elephant9

Elephant9 is a musical monster.

That may sound bold, but there is no other way to describe this band.

Music is at its purest and most powerful when it feels free, dynamic and constantly evolving. In an age where music is - more often than not - constrained by electronic devices, fixed time frames and rigid song structures, it's refreshing to experience the exact opposite.
The members of the group have a long history in bands such as Bigbang, Shining, Motorpsycho and Supersilent, but it is in the constellation of Elephant9 that these three musicians have found the ultimate playground to showcase their eclectic tastes and musical abilities.

Through Torstein Lofthus' thunderous and daring drumming, bassist Nikolai Hængsles steady, pounding rhythm and the rich, uncompromising layers of sound from keyboardist and organist Ståle Storløkken - they deliver sounds and rhythm structures that have made grown men and women weep and laugh with joy. Elephant9 find inspiration in music that crosses boundaries, which has prompted music journalists to reach deep into their bag of tricks to find suitable descriptions. The circular melodic themes of Tangerine Dream have been mentioned, as has the flaming, phasing world of Jimi Hendrix.

And that's not all. Other critics have mentioned John Coltrane, Deep Purple, Soft Machine, King Crimson and Fela Kuti - all artists who have in common that they have defied the rules and thus stood the test of time. Yet Elephant9 have no desire to be seen as "retro" as they move with open arms into a new, chaotic era of music - where technology seems to have made people leave hackneyed descriptions and references behind.

The mix of their shared tastes and unique musical abilities allows Elephant9 to create a unique, uncontrollable and extroverted sound that aims to entertain and mesmerize audiences.

In other words, there's no good reason to stay at home tonight!
