Alexander Hawkins Trio © Dawid Laskowski
Alexander Hawkins Trio
Alexander Hawkins is widely recognized as one of the UK's most innovative and imaginative pianists and composers. He is self-taught with a great love and deep knowledge of the jazz tradition, which he brings together with classical references in his compositions and performances.
The three musicians have played together for many years in other projects led by Alexander, including his quartet and ensemble and the Carnival Celestial released on Intakt in 2023.
In the trio, the huge sound and impeccable sense of time of Neil Charles (aka producer Ben Marc) and the sensitive drumming of Stephen Davis create a masterful interplay of freedom and structure, composition and improvisation.
Alexander has collaborated with Anthony Braxton on a number of his projects. In 2018, the trio performed with him in London at Braxton's Standards. The quartet then toured Europe in early January 2020, recording each performance and releasing the monumental 13-CD live box set Anthony Braxton Quartet (Standards). The trio is also the core of John Surman's quartet.
Neil Charles (bass), Stephen Davis (drums), Alexander Hawkins (piano)
