22 Jahre Nitty Gritty - A tribute to Thomas Hürtgen

The "Nitty Gritty" concert and party series was first initiated 22 years ago by Thomas Hürtgen and Adé Bantu and held in the Stadtgarten Cologne. The "Nitty Gritty" set new standards, far beyond the city limits and showed not least that you can celebrate a party as well as attend a concert. National and international Hip-Hop and Reggae artists and DJs were on stage. Among others there were: Afu-Ra, Jeru the Damaja, Bantu, The Narcissists, Dos Noun, Patrice, Gentleman, Clueso, Die Beginner, Dj Chestnut, Pow Pow Movement, Neil Perch, Kingston Sound,Dj Desue and many more.

Subsequently, in 2001, after the tragic attack on Alberto Adriano, Thomas Hürtgen and Adé Bantu founded the artist:inside collective Brothers Keepers, where the who's who of the German rap scene spoke out about the incident. The project also received international attention, with both Harry Belafonte and Damian Marley joining in.

What started 22 years ago as a fixed idea of some music enthusiasts in Cologne, resulted in a party series, a label, a publishing house, an association and in Brothers Keepers and their hit " Adriano". Several albums with international participation followed, collaborations with UB40, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Gentleman, Roots Manuva and many more.

The "Nitty Gritty" on 22.04.2022 will take place to celebrate the life's work of Thomas Hürtgen and to honor him. Unfortunately he passed away much too young in December last year. Old companions, friends and partners will come together to let it rip once again.

Among others there are: Patrice, BANTU, D-Flame, Pow Pow Movement, Kingston Sound, Junior Carl, Bleibtreuboy,
Mariama, Dj Chestnut, Dj Rooks, Grzly Adams and certainly one or the other special guest.

All proceeds will be donated to the children of Thomas Hürtgen.
