Paul Heller invites… United Jazz + Rock Ensemble, 2nd Generation

„In Memoriam Wolfgang Dauner“

The United Jazz + Rock Ensemble was founded by that piano legend, to whom Paul Heller now sets a monument with his latest invitation: Under the motto "In Memoriam Wolfgang Dauner", the second generation of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble comes to the Stadtgarten, whereby the new members around drummer and son of Dauner, Flo Dauner, have very consciously decided not to fill the piano position anew. So far, there have been only a few exclusive concerts of the Second Generation, which plays anything but retrospective ghost music, but rather lets the classical compositions of the original ensemble shine in new arrangements - as a vital continuation of a great idea: dynamic group sound, celebrated by independent creative minds and connectable individualists.
The main creative phase of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble lasted from 1977 to 2002, during which time 15 albums were released on the in-house label Mood - all of them memorably designed in black and white. All the more colorful, energetic and dynamic the sound of the ten-member super group, which was also celebrated as the "band of bandleaders": Barbara Thompson, Ian Carr, Wolfgang Dauner, Jon Hiseman, Volker Kriegel, Albert Mangelsdorff, Charlie Mariano. Ack van Rooyen and Eberhard Weber - what an ensemble!
Paul Heller grew up with the records of the first ensemble. Later he played with Volker Kriegel, and with the other founding member Ack van Rooyen a 30-year collaboration and friendship developed. So what he and his guests will bring to the stage is far more than "just" rousing brilliant music: it is a deeply felt affair of the heart.
